Amorous Accident: A Dog's Eye View of Murder
by Jean C. Keating
266-page soft-cover from Astra Publishers
Kevin Andrews, a lieutenant of Richmond detectives and a cranky dieter, is assigned to investigate the homicide of a prominent oncologist and cancer researcher at the Commonwealth Cancer Institute. Various individuals connected with the homicide seem overly anxious to gain possession of two dogs found in the victim's lab. Andrews is determined to keep the dogs out of harm's way until he can discover the link between the canines and the murder, and maneuvers the Institute into allowing his godson's wife, Genna Colt, to care for them. That's when Andrews' troubles really begin. The bond and ability to communicate which exist between Genna and her shadow, a Papillon named Sky, are the gifts Andrews intends to use in extracting the knowledge of his canine witnesses to the murder. But Genna has strong feelings about animal welfare, a far too-intimate -in Andrews' judgment- acquaintance with computer accesses to data bases, an inquisitive attitude about murder, and an unsettling disrespect for legalities. Having placed his canine witnesses in Genna's protective cutody until he can solve the murder, Andrews unknowingly creates bigger problems for himself. Genna wants to solve the murder but is more interested in making certain the dogs are never returned to the lab.

Pawprints On My Heart
Edited by Jean C. Keating
Illustrated by Beverly S. Abbott
176-Page hardcover from Astra Publishers
Pawprints On My Heart begins with a light-hearted spoof about a vet's waiting room on a busy Saturday morning, and ends with a poignant celebration of an old dog's 16th birthday. In between are 31 delightful stories and seven poems about the companion animals with whom we share our lives: their pranks that make us laugh, their devotion and love that enrich our lives. Thanksgiving will never be the same after you meet the candle-sniffing cat that doesn't like cranberries and the enterprising collie who brings home the turkey, fully cooked and complete with pop-up thermometer. The owner and trainer of the first toy dog to win Service Dog of the Year honors from the Delta Society shares some of the comical situations in which the irrepressible Peekaboo proves he is still a lovable dog for all his remarkable talent. Meet the imperious Papillon who utilizes entrapment to regain her 'family honor', the fearsome looking Rottie who learns to purr from his feline friends, and listen in as a mother cat instructs her kitten on the catly way to handle humans. The book is penetrating, warm, witty and well-crafter. With its beautiful illustrations and moving prose, it appeals to animal lovers of all ages.
Pawprints was a finalist for the Maxwell Award from Dog Writers' Association of America as best dog fiction of 2001.

Pawprints Through the Years
Edited by Jean C. Keating
Illustrated by Beverly S. Abbott
176-Page hardcover from Astra Publishers The book — which has garnered rave reviews — chronicles the author’s life when, after a nineteen-year marriage ended in divorce, she began raising and showing a tiny breed of dog called a Papillon. Today she shares her life with no less than 12 Papillons. Her dogs have appeared in the "Westminster Kennel Club" show and on "Animal Planet." Now Jean takes that expansive knowledge and brings us a dog’s life, a woman’s life, a merged life between the fuzzy creatures she loves, and who love her back – unconditionally. Beguiling Bundle by Jean C. Keating NEW
$14.95 + $4.00 postage
A must-read book for lovers of mysteries and animal companions, Beguiling Bundle, which is second in the series of Genna Colt and Sky mysteries, had me sitting on the edge of my seat as the danger surrounding our intrepid heroine intensified. Would Genna come out of this alive? As usual, her Uncle Kevin Andrews, Richmond detective, attempts to protect the strong-willed animal lover while struggling to stay on a diet. In the meanwhile, Genna’s work as an aerospace engineer under contract to NASA and her preoccupation with local Papillon dog shows collide. – Carol Chapman, author, When We Were Gods, www.CarolChapmanGift.com
Murder interrupts at a dog show, and Genna and Sky must find the killer before the killer finds them ...
Genna Colt’s plans to introduce her Uncle Kevin Andrews, a Richmond homicide detective, to the excitement of the weekend dog shows at Jamestown seems jinxed. Her three weekend guests are accompanied by three additional dogs. The rescue papillon she’s fostering delivers a puppy with a birth defect that requires hand feeding every two hours. She’s already frantic and sleep deprived by the morning of the first show, but neither she nor her Uncle Kevin expect murder to intrude. When an exhibitor is killed in the show ring the killer seems to think Genna might have seen something that would be a threat. Andrews and Genna are drawn into the homicide as Andrews struggles to protect both Genna and her papillon Sky from the killer’s determined efforts to add them to his list of victims.
